Glenn Maxwell Looking Forward to Play in IPL

With the ICC T20 World Cup for this year finally cancelled by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell shared that he is preparing for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) in September. As many as 17 Australia players will play in the cash-rich league.

Although he said that he was disappointed as the T20 World Cup has cancelled which was scheduled to take place in Australia, he was "pretty excited" to play in the IPL.

“Any time you have a home World Cup you are certainly looking forward to it. We felt like we had been building towards it as a T20 side,” he told Foxsports. “You wait and see (with the IPL), waiting on the judgments of other people, what you can and can’t do with travel and quarantine times and all that, if everything gets ticked off there I have no real reason no to go.”

He further added, “The overseas guys get a hell of a kick playing in it, some of the best players in the world rubbing shoulders, similar to a World Cup, but on a smaller scale. If everything gets ticked off I would love to be available for it.”

Glenn Maxwell took a break from cricket last year in October owing to his mental health. But he returned with the last years Big Bash League and did fairly well. Since the entire world has been fighting against the global pandemic novel coronavirus and it postponed all the sporting events across the globe including the 13th edition of IPL which was earlier scheduled to be held in March.

However, its imposed lockdown has affected players’ a lot and Maxwell said that he has been in touch with the coach Justin Langer and preparing himself mentally and physically as well to get back in action soon.
