R Ashwin Recalls MS Dhoni's Words After 2011 West Indies Series

R Ashwin recently recalled the Mumbai Test against West Indies in 2011, which ended as a draw with the scores level. Notably, it was the only second game which was ended this way.

While chasing 243, India required three runs in the last over on Day 5 which was bowled by pacer Fidel Edwards, whereas they had two wickets in hand. Tailender Varun Aaron gave the strike to Ashwin, who had scored a century in the first innings and brought the equation to 2 off 2.

Ashwin then tried to flick the penultimate ball but got an inside edge onto his pad leaving India 2 to score in the final ball. He then hit the ball to the deep and showed no urgency to take the second run. The scores were levelled, but India was not all out, so the game was declared drawn and not tied. Post the game, MS Dhoni had a word with Ashwin and the veteran spinner has recently shared that.

"After the game, MS Dhoni came to me and said, ‘You could have taken a chance in the previous ball. Probably taken a single, and let Varun Aaron slog one off the last ball’. So yeah, that’s hindsight,” Ashwin told Pakistan journalist Mazher Arshad in a Youtube interview.

He further added, “I was pretty young into international cricket and that time whatever I was touching was turning into gold. I had got the MoM in the first Test then I got married in between and then came back to play the Mumbai Test. In the final innings, we looked good to chase, but all of a sudden, we had a collapse. I didn’t want to risk going for a big shot, and then, the next batsman coming in and getting out. Fidel Edwards was getting it to reverse and it would have been difficult for a No.11. we could lose the Test match, from being in a position of strength, it was not even 50-50."

However, he also had to bear the consequences soon after the match as he was criticised on social media for not taking the second run. Although he didn’t take the second run, Ashwin was awarded the Man of the Series for claiming 22 wickets in three games. He was also the Man of the Match as well.

Irfan Pathan Reveals the Similarity Between Sourav Ganguly & Virat Kohli

India have produced several captains over the years and former India captain Sourav Ganguly and current captain Virat Kohli are among them. Although the debate can go on who has been India's best skipper among them, both Ganguly and Kohli have similarities as captain as both are known for their aggressive captaincy and never give up attitude.

Apart from the above qualities, there is another striking similarity between the two and former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan revealed that recently.

“He is very similar to Sourav Ganguly as well. A guy who backs his youngsters really, really well. Virat Kohli has that aura about him, that he goes out of his way to back the youngsters,” Pathan said in the latest episode of Star Sports chat show Cricket Connected. “We have seen that with Rishabh Pant, we have seen the press conferences, he goes and says, ‘No, we need to back a guy like Rishabh Pant purely on his potential’.”

While the ICC T20 World Cup has postponed, it has opened the window for the 13th edition of Indian Premier League. Moreover, India will also travel to Australia in December where they will paly a four-match Test series, and former captain and now the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had said that he expects the team to win again. Last time India won the series against them when they toured to Australia in 208 under Virat Kohli's leadership.

“I have said that to Virat also,” Ganguly said to India Today in an interview. “I said, ‘because you’re Virat Kohli, your standards are high. When you walk to play, when you walk with your team, I, watching on TV, don’t expect you to just play well against Australia. I expect you to win. So for me, that is what it is. Because you have set the standards. It’s not anybody else. So you have to live up to the standards’.”

Harbhajan Singh Confident About His Own Skills

Veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh backs himself to return in the squad even at 40. He is considered one of the best spinners in the country as well. He thinks age at one level is over-rated who has played103 Tests and 236 ODIs for India as well.

"If you still want to test me by pitting me for a battle of skills against those youngsters you consider best in the business, please bring it on," Harbhajan, who has taken 235 wickets, said. "You can talk about age if the ball while fielding goes between your legs or your knees are gone or you have done in shoulder which is the reason you can't give that force.”

"But yes, I have been on the field wearing those India colours for at least 800 days (playing time). I have been an achiever who doesn't need anyone's sympathy. But yes, if it's about skills, bring the best in India and I am still ready," he said.

Despite last playing for India way back in 2016, he is a regular face in the cash-rich league Indian Premier League where he used to play for one of the best teams - Mumbai Indians earlier and later went to play for another best team – Chennai Super Kings. However, the experienced spinner also thinks that he can be at his best even after not playing domestic cricket as he has played enough amount of top-level cricket.

While talking about his 22-year-long journey, he said that he used to treat every day like an exam where a lot of papers went well and he got marks at one end, while on the other, he didn’t do well how he liked to do. However, the spinner with 711 international wickets across formats is ready to take part in the 13th edition of Indian Premier League. It was earlier scheduled to take place in March but eventually got postponed owing to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak and it will take place later this year.

Anne Rice criticized Tom Cruise’s cast in Interview With The Vampire

One of the most admired actors in Hollywood, Tom Cruise has stepped in his 58th year today. While the star has accounted for incredible fame within the big screen, reports have stated that he didn’t seem to be the favourite in everyone's casting selections. And that came out evident in the 1994 movie, ‘Interview With The Vampire’ which starred him and Brad Pitt as lead characters.

The penetrating dissatisfaction

The film happens to be an adaptation of a book with the same title penned by Anne Rice. But unfortunately, the author herself couldn’t agree with Tom’s role in the film until it garnered a huge response from the audience.

A weird choice

At that time, Anne recorded her statement while speaking about producer David Geffen and director Neil Jordan’s decision of casting the actor in the film. She told Movieline, "The Tom Cruise casting is so bizarre, it’s almost impossible to imagine how it’s going to work. Does Tom Cruise have any idea of what he’s getting into? I’m not sure he does. … His comments on TV that he wanted to do something scary and he loved ‘creature features’ as a kid, well, that didn’t make me feel any better. … the choice is just so bizarre.” Yes, you read it right which points at the cast of Lestat de Lioncourt. It sounds, the choice of the masterminds simply pissed off the author’s vision.

Triumphing millions of hearts

But lastly, her perceptions received a good jolt as the film was declared to be a box office hit in its release which accounted for numerous positive feedbacks. The massive appreciation, however, compelled Anne to seek an apology from the actor. Apart from that, she also published an advertisement in Vanity Fair and The New York Times calling the film adaptation “a masterpiece". Although her views had initially disappointed the fandom, it strengthened the star’s stand like never before.

Kapil Dev's Advice Helped Rahul Dravid Take Coaching After Retirement

Batting legend Rahul Dravid said that legendary India captain Kapil Dev helped him to think about coaching options after his retirement. That certainly worked for Dravid as he eventually took up the coaching job of India A and Under-19 teams. Under his guidance, India U-19 team won the World Cup in 2018 and reached the final in 2020 as well.

"After I finished (playing), there were quite a few options and I was not sure what to do. It was Kapil Dev who gave me this advice actually when I was coming to the end of my career," Dravid told the head coach of India women's team, WV Raman, on his chat show 'Inside Out'. "I bumped into him somewhere and he said 'Rahul, don't commit to doing anything straightaway, go out and spend a few years just exploring and doing different things and see what you really like'. I thought it was good advice."

While he said that he started liking commentary but later he felt like disconnect" from the game and being connected with the players give him satisfaction. And he shared that he liked to get involved through coaching when he got the opportunity of India A and Under-19 team.

The great batsman, who amassed 13288 runs from 164 Tests between 1996 and 2012 and currently the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru said that te BCCI took a right decision on their U-19 teams. With that, a pool of 45 to 50 players can get the exposure to the facilities at NCA where they can have good coaches, good physios, good trainers and whatever required.

However, Rahul Dravid also revealed that he had doubt on himself as an ODI player when he was dropped from the squad in 1998 owing to his strike rate. He was not in the circuit for a year and he got insecure as well. But he came back with a bang to the ODI side before the 1999 World Cup in England and became the highest run-getter (461) of the tournament. He later played in the 2003 World Cup and also led the team in the 2007 World Cup.

Gautam Gambhir Recalls Being the Roommate of MS Dhoni

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir recently recalled his memories from the good old days and opened up about the days when he and MS Dhoni used to share a room during their tour with the national team.

He said, "So, we removed the bed out of the room and then we slept on the floor on the mattresses and it was a great moment because we both were young. MS just initially started playing international cricket, we went to Kenya together, Zimbabwe, India A tour together, we spent a lot of time together."

He further added, "We were roommates for more than a month and all we used to talk about was hair because he had those long hair and how he would maintain that hair and all that stuff," Gambhir said on Star Sports show Cricket Connected. We remember sleeping on the floor, because we had a very small room and the first week, we were discussing how to make this room look bigger.

However, Gautam Gambhir had earlier shared that the former India captain was 'lucky' to have such a good and experienced team to lead and therefore he was able to be as successful as he was in his reign as the captain because the hard work was done by his seniors especially Sourav Ganguly – the former India captain and now the president of the BCCI.

He added that MS Dhoni has been a very lucky captain because he got the experienced team in every format. Even he also added that leading the side in the 2011 World Cup team was very easy for him as he had players like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Yusuf Pathan, Virat Kohli and others so he had got the best teams that helped India win. Notably, MS Dhoni became the first captain to win all three ICC trophies.

Gautam Gambhir Believes MS Dhoni Was Lucky for India

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir thinks India’s wicketkeeper-batsman as well as former captain MS Dhoni, who successfully led Team India to two ICC World Cups victories, one ICC Champions Trophy and also took the side to the number one ranking in Test cricket, was 'very lucky' as a captain.

Gambhir believes Dhoni got the benefit of an experienced team as the hard work to make the team was done by his predecessors, most specifically current BCCI president and former India captain Sourav Ganguly.

"Dhoni has been a very lucky captain because he got an amazing team in every format. Captaining 2011 World Cup team was very easy for Dhoni because we had players like Sachin (Tendulkar), (Virender) Sehwag, myself, Yuvraj (Singh), Yusuf (Pathan), Virat (Kohli) so he had got the best teams," Gambhir said on Star Sports show Cricket Connected. "Ganguly had to work very hard for it, and as a result, Dhoni won so many trophies."

MS Dhoni is considered as one of the best captains of world cricket. Even under his captaincy, Team India has a quite good record in Test cricket - especially at home and it was under him only that India achieved the top rank in the ICC rankings for the very first time. However, India hardly did well away from home under his reign in the longer format of the game.

However, Gautam Gambhir believes that MS Dhoni's success in the longer format of the game came on the back of one important player who was made by none other than Ganguly - Zaheer Khan.

"The reason Dhoni became such a successful captain in Test cricket is because of Zaheer Khan. He was a big blessing that Dhoni got, for which credit goes to Ganguly. According to me, Zaheer has been India’s best world-class bowler," he concluded.

When health is the only wealth

In this lockdown, are you planning to adopt a ketogenic diet? While you might have tried several means to cater to a sustainable lifestyle, in the long run, this concept limits the intake of carbohydrates by opting for a high-fat, adequate-protein diet. But what makes it worth relevant on the go? Well, the idea subjects the body to burn fats rather than carbs. Thus, fatty acids act as the main source of fuel in metabolism, futher increasing the energy reserves. Besides, the resulting anticonvulsants help to conquer epileptic seizures in children.

Now, those looking out for a vegan diet, it comes with several benefits. If someone follows the diet properly, lower body mass index can be attained in a routine manner which also reduces blood sugar levels, higher insulin sensitivity, lowering the risk of developing type 2 diabetes when compared to non-vegans. Observational studies have meanwhile reported that vegans pose a 75% lower risk of developing high blood pressure as well as 42% less risk of dying from heart ailments. But, that’s not the end.

Vegans may benefit from a 15% lower risk of developing or dying from diseases like cancer! Apart from that, vegan diets seek to reduce symptoms of arthritis including pain, joint swelling, and morning stiffness while diabetic patients substituting meat with plant protein lessen the threat of poor kidney function.

Lastly, to speak about intermittent fasting, it refers to different meal timing schedules which cycle between voluntary fasting and non-fasting over a particular span. It can be implemented in three ways: alternate-day fasting, periodic fasting, and daily time-restricted feeding. According to The American Heart Association (AHA), intermittent fasting might result in weight loss, lower insulin resistance, while reducing the risk of cardiometabolic diseases. But whether it can be considered as sustainable in the long-term remains unknown. On the other hand, the procedure might fight against obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and inflammation.

S Badrinath Thinks MS Dhoni Must Take a Call on His International Future

Former Team India, as well as, Chennai Super Kings player S Badrinath thinks that former India captain MS Dhoni should take a call on his international future soon but he also shared that the choice should be left on him only. MS Dhoni has been out of the action ever since India lost to New Zealand in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England. His absence led the speculation of his retirement too but that didn’t stay long as he started practising for the 13th edition of Indian Premier League as well. Badrinath has played under Dhoni's captaincy in both IPL and India as well.

"It’s important he chooses. His body is also something that has gone through quite a bit. There’s a reason why he doesn’t play First-Class cricket or Test cricket because his back has also troubled him. It happens with any keeper, once you’ve played so much cricket under so much stress," Badrinath told Hindustan Times.

He further added, "He’s probably taking stock of how much he’s left in him. A player of his calibre, nobody should decide whether he should play the T20 World Cup, he should play IPL. It’s upto MS to decide what he wants to decide. Right now, there is too much speculation going around as well, most of it is not true."

Badrinath also shared some insight about Chennai Super Kings where he told that despite how one performs, the owners treated every player the same. "One thing that I learnt from Dhoni was that if something is going well, it’s important not to tamper with it. Even we don’t know, but something is working. And it’s better to not touch it. CSK is one of the most grounded franchises because we always went there and did our jobs."

A cruel gesture

We can’t simply deny the credibility of the papers as the words make for a significant assertion in legal terms. Nasser Hussain Comments on Virat Kohli’s Captaincy

Former England captain Nasser Hussain has referred India captain, Virat Kohli, a 'tinker man', said that at times he tinkers a little bit too much with his captaincy. While speaking on Star Sports show Cricket Connected, Hussain said how Kohli has emerged as a captain over the years.

"First thing I would say is he’s his own man. It’s very easy coming after MS Dhoni and think, well, I’ve got to be like MS Dhoni, I’ve got to be this calm, calculated finisher, cool, ice man. Virat Kohli could never be the cool ice man. Virat Kohli wears his heart on his sleeve," Hussain said.

He again added, "If you watch Virat Kohli play football in the morning, I worry about some of his own players because he’s so keen to win, he could do a double-footed tackle at waist height to be honest because he just wants to win and that’s why in a run chase in white-ball cricket, if you ask me to name one person I want in a run chase in white-ball cricket, it would be Kohli because he sees that winning target and that’s all he’s interested in.”

Husain also opened up about India's 'selection plan', saying that India made a mistake in the World Cup 2019 by not researching properly for the No. 4 position. India lost to New Zealand in the semifinal of 2019 Cricket World Cup. And since then, former India captain MS Dhoni has been out of the action.

He added that while coming to a World Cup, they need to know about the crucial No. 4 position when they got so many great batsmen in the team. But they lacked in that position which was needed to be sorted out. However, that might have cost them the game as well. Notably, India have tried many players in that position but hardly a few did well.

MS Dhoni Helped Me Learn the Art of Reading Pitches and Setting Fields, Reveals Kuldeep Yadav

India spinner Kuldeep Yadav recently said that he learnt the art of reading pitches and setting fields from former India captain MS Dhoni who is known for his guidance to the bowlers, especially youngsters behind the stumps.

"When I started my career, I wasn't good at reading the pitch. I learnt about this aspect after I started playing with MS Dhoni. He would often tell me when I needed to spin the ball or where I needed to pitch it," Kuldeep told Deep Dasgupta in the third episode of ESPNcricinfo Cricketbaazi.

He further added, "Dhoni was very good at setting the field as well. That's why I never paid attention to field placement when I bowled with Dhoni keeping the wicket. He would understand where the batsman could try to hit me and set the field accordingly. It helped me bowl with more confidence. This is something I learnt from him and since the time he has not played ODI cricket, this has gone missing as well."

However, Kuldeep shared that he can set his own field now and he also gave the credit to current India captain Virat Kohli for believing in youngsters like him. Kohli believes in all the youngsters to give them full freedom which is also one of the reasons why Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep have had a successful partnership for India and also become the vital cogs in white-ball cricket.

The left-handed spinner further added that Kohli believes that they can win matches for India. When the captain shows faith in a player, his frame of mind improves and it makes everything quite easy as well. He further revealed that for the captain, Virat Kohli, it doesn't matter if a bowler sometimes gave away 65-70 runs in his ten overs but if he picks up three wickets, the captain will be happy.

Ishant Sharma Reveals the Bond He Shares with MS Dhoni

India speedster Ishant Sharma has spoken about his bond with former India captain MS Dhoni, citing that their interactions gradually increased after 2013. While speaking on Star Sports show Cricket Connected, Ishant said that he started talking to him and understanding him after 2013. He even got to know how cool Dhoni is and how nicely he talks and treats to everyone, especially youngsters.

Ishant further added that Dhoni is exactly like this on the field too and his room is open for everyone. He even shared that he has learnt a lot from the former captain. Recently, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan had said that Dhoni started giving bowlers more control with time.

"He was much more calmer in 2013. Look, in 2007 it was the first time and you understand that when you’re given a big responsibility of leading the country, you always get excited about certain things," Pathan said on Star Sports show Cricket Connected. "Obviously, the meetings were always smaller even in 2007 and in 2013 Champions Trophy as well, there were no differences in terms of 5-minute meetings.”

"But one thing that has really changed and that happens with experiences, when young Mahendra Singh Dhoni became a captain in 2007, he used to run from the wicket-keeping end to the bowler in excitement and try to control the bowler as well. By 2013 came he was letting the bowler control themselves rather he controlling them, so he understood that and he was very calm and in control in 2013 Champions Trophy,” he added.

However, the former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been out of action ever since India had lost the semi-final to New Zealand in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. His absence from the game has led the speculation of retirement as well. But that didn’t last long as he was seen practising for the 2020 Indian Premier League which got postponed for the indefinite time period owing to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak not only in the country but also in the entire world.

Must Give Virat Kohli Credit for Continuing to Learn from MS Dhoni, Says Michael Hussey

Former Australia cricketer Michael Hussey shared that India captain Virat Kohli should be given credit for still learning from the former India captain MS Dhoni. Dhoni gave up the responsibility in white-ball cricket in 2017 but has been an active part of the side as well where Virat Kohli often seen discussing strategies with him on the field.

"I think you got to give a lot of kudos to Virat Kohli, having someone like MS Dhoni still in the team who’s been, arguably, India’s most successful captain. Sometimes some people would find that threatening to still have that person in the team," Hussey said in an episode of chat show Sony Ten’s Pit Stop on Sony India’s Facebook page.

"But I think that’s where you need to tip your hat to Virat and so you know he’s obviously got the personality to say ‘no, no I would like this guy around. I can learn from this guy, and he’s going to help me get down the better skipper and obviously have a better team’," he further added.

Notably, former captain, MS Dhoni has not played a single game ever since India lost in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup against New Zealand. Moreover, that has led to speculation about his retirement as well where veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh shared Dhoni's days are over.

Harbhajan had told Rohit Sharma in an Instagram live session, "He will 100% play the IPL, but does he want to play for India anymore, that's the first thing we need to find out. Does he feel like it or not? As far as I know, he doesn't want to.”

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni had started practising for the 13th edition of Indian Premier League which eventually got postponed amid the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in the country and a call is yet to be taken on this league.

Kris Srikkanth Calls Rohit Sharma One of the Best Openers in ODIs

India opener Rohit Sharma is considered as one of the best openers in the limited-overs format in recent times. However, his career took a huge turn when former India captain MS Dhoni asked him to open for India in the 2013 Champions Trophy. While speaking on Star Sports show Cricket Connected, Srikkanth praised Rohit Sharma, "I think I would rate him as one of the greatest all-time one-day openers in world cricket. What's the greatest quality Rohit Sharma is that he goes for these big hundreds and double hundreds, that is something amazing.

"In a one-day cricket match, you will go 150, 180, 200, just imagine where you are going to take the team to, that's the greatness about Rohit Sharma. He is definitely, probably is in the top 3 or 5 all-time greatest openers as far as one-day cricket is concerned."

Recently, former India speedster Irfan Pathan also said that Rohit is way more talented and shared how the talented youngster used to work hard in his early days even if it doesn’t express from his body language. He also compared him to domestic cricket legend Wasim Jaffer and said they both are kind of same as they look relaxed always, take time to settle down and it looks as if they have a lot of time.

Pathan again said that from outside many used to think he might need to work hard but whenever the former used to speak to him he always talk about the team first and that is why his Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians is the best team in the cash-rich league. Under Rohit’s leadership, Mumbai has won the title four times since its inaugural season.

Kane Williamson Calls IPL the Biggest Domestic Competition

New Zealand captain and Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Kane Williamson has referred to the Indian Premier League as the 'biggest domestic competition'. He also said that he wanted to take part in the tournament to gain knowledge and learn new things also.

Williamson told Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube show titled 'DRS with Ash', "For us, to see the passion for cricket in India is an amazing thing, it is a brilliant competition and there is a high standard, a lot of other countries have followed suit to start their leagues."

Kane Williamson is one of those players who might not look as destructive as others but they can do wonders if they are in form. As an example, he led his side Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2018 in the absence of regular captain David Warner due to his ban for the spot-fixing scandal in South Africa and did it pretty well. However, he also said that leading the IPL team was totally different compared to leading his national New Zealand.

"It is quite different to lead New Zealand and an IPL franchise, initially I did not know what to expect, but like I mentioned it is an Indian competition so you are coming into quite a different culture, I was trying to keep an open mind, there is a lot of experience in all of the groups, it was an enjoyable season to lead the Sunrisers Hyderabad," Williamson said. "The support staff have been there at Hyderabad for a long time and they have enjoyed success, it was about maintaining the style of play that we are known for."

Kane Williamson has so far played 41 matches in the IPL where he has scored 1,302 runs which came at an average of 38.29. However, this year’s IPL has been postponed for the indefinite time period owing to the global pandemic novel coronavirus outbreak. The COVID-19 outbreak has so far claimed several lives across the globe and cancelled or postponed all the sporting events as well.

However, the situation is slowly getting better in some places and England are all set to play their first series against West Indies soon at their own backyard.

Aakash Chopra Names MS Dhoni His Captain of All-time IPL XI Team

Indian Premier League has gained immense popularity ever since it first played 13 years ago. It not only gave quality Indian players but foreign players also. Former India opener Aakash Chopra, who had been a part of the league himself, named an all-time IPL XI.

He chose his openers in the form of David Warner and Rohit Sharma. Both of them are considered as formidable players for their respective countries and has stunning records at the top of the order as well. And, it’s not at all a surprise that they have been chosen for the opening slot. For the next slots, Chopra named India captain Virat Kohli and experienced Suresh Raina.

While Virat Kohli has amassed six tons in the tournament, Suresh Raina is considered as one of the most destructive batsmen in the history of the cash-rich league. Former South Africa player AB de Villiers who is known for his swashbuckling batting, placed after the Indian duo of Aakash Chopra. However, former captain MS Dhoni named the skipper and keeper of this team.

However, the former India opener has named a few renowned pace bowlers including Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga who are the top bowlers in the tournament. For spin department, his choice is veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh and West Indies spinner Sunil Naraine. While Singh was a key player for Mumbai Indian and later started playing for Chennai Super Kings under the leadership of MS Dhoni, Narine is one of the vital cogs in the Kolkata Knight Riders’ camp.

Surprisingly, the flamboyant West Indies opener Chris Gayle, who is known for his explosive batting and has great record best in the tournament didn't make it to the all-time IPL XI team.

Aakash Chopra’s all-time IPL XI: David Warner, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, AB de Villiers, MS Dhoni (C & WK), Harbhajan Singh, Sunil Narine, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah.
